About the HOMeR Study

This study is prospective study which is open to enrollment and currently in the eighth year of follow-up and consists of an initial assessment and then annual follow-up assessments for 15 years. We are enrolling patients from our clinics at Mass Eye and Ear. The main purpose of this research study is to find new potential biomarkers for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and to increase our comprehension of the disease mechanisms. Biomarkers are measurable indicators of the severity or presence of a disease and can be of many types, namely they can be elements identified in the serum or urine. This is an observational study. Patients who agree to participate in the study will experience three main types of procedures: questions about their medical history and life patterns, collection of blood and urine, and some ocular imaging exams.
